Safety on WireClub

Is It Safe to Talk to Strangers Online?

It’s never completely risk-free, but you can lower the risks by staying in control of what you share and when you leave. Here’s what WireClub gives you to do that, and the habits that help with the rest.

What WireClub gives you

  • You choose how to talk. Pick video, voice or text before you start. Only video uses your camera, and your browser asks for permission first.
  • You don’t need an account to start. No email or username is needed to start matching.
  • You can always leave. On a call, Next appears a few seconds in, and you can hang up at any time; you’ll be asked to confirm. In a text chat, head back whenever you like.
  • Report or block from their profile. You can open someone’s profile from your call history, then report or block them there.
  • Reports are reviewed within 24 hours. Report in good faith: deliberately false reports can lead to account restrictions.

Habits that keep you safe

  • Keep personal details to yourself. Your full name, address, workplace, phone number and social handles don’t belong in a chat with a stranger.
  • Check your background on video. Mail, documents and the view from your window can say more than you mean to.
  • Don’t move to another app too quickly. Someone who pushes you to switch platforms fast is a red flag.
  • Never send money or gift cards to someone you met in a chat, whatever the story.
  • Be careful with links. If a stranger sends one, you don’t have to open it.
  • Leave when something feels off. Pressure, guilt trips or ignored boundaries are reason enough. You don’t owe anyone an explanation.

If something goes wrong

  1. Leave the conversation: hang up the call, or head back from the chat.
  2. Open their profile (from your call history if you need to) and block them.
  3. Report them from the same profile, with a short note about what happened.
  4. If you’re in immediate danger, call your local emergency number (911 in the US). For other threats, or if you think a crime has happened, contact your local police.
